March and April are the best months for Da Nang if you want beaches and sightseeing in one trip. March brings roughly 28°C afternoons; April reaches 31°C. May to August suits beach days with stronger heat. Avoid October and November for a short holiday that depends on swimming every day.

Da Nang weather by month

The figures here are long-term averages, not a 2027 forecast. The monthly table uses WMO station data supplied by Vietnam's meteorological authority. Air temperatures and rainfall are rounded; sea temperatures below describe the seasonal pattern. Use beach flags and current warnings for decisions on the day.

December25 / 21272Cooler, with significant rain remaining

February is the driest month in this series, with 22mm of rain. October receives 658mm, almost thirty times as much, and November still gets 486mm. Put the beach stay in spring if your dates can move; keep autumn bookings changeable and give onward transport a spare night.

The WMO climate table for Da Nang provides the station figures. Use the best time to visit Vietnam guide to coordinate a longer route: dry weather in Hanoi does not extend down the whole coast. Da Nang's autumn rain peak belongs in the booking decision before you choose a beachfront hotel.

Best months for beaches and swimming

For swimming, March to August is the main window. Sea temperatures climb from roughly 25°C in March to about 29°C or 30°C in summer, then fall towards 27°C in November and 25°C in December. January and February sit near 24°C. April balances warm air, warming water and lower rainfall.

At My Khe and Non Nuoc, find the lifeguard station before entering the water and swim inside the marked area. Ask where the currents are strongest. Keep children beside a supervising adult in the water, and stay out of roped-off stretches even when people are swimming farther along the beach.

Big swell is more common from September to March, with autumn storms making October and November especially poor swimming bets. My Khe can fly red flags on these days. A red flag means stay out. The sea can remain rough after rain stops, so judge the beach separately from the sky.

Choose a My Khe hotel for early beach access in spring or summer; choose a city base near the Han River for museum visits and meals in wet months. The Da Nang beach guide covers the coastal options.

September to November: storms and floods

Storm frequency needs a precise label. A study using official 1998 to 2023 reports counted 63 storms and tropical depressions affecting Da Nang, about 2.4 systems per year. That is not 2.4 direct typhoon landfalls. September to November is the main concern for a visitor booking exposed coastal or mountain activities.

October and November bring grey, humid stretches with repeated showers and periods of prolonged heavy rain. October reaches about 30°C by day and November 28°C, so this is wet tropical weather, not winter cold. Expect drying clothes to take longer; pack spare socks and put museum visits between outdoor weather gaps.

During heavy-rain warnings, ask your driver about the actual road to Hoi An, Hue or Ba Na Hills. Leave a flooded street unentered. Charge your phone, keep medication and documents together, and follow hotel instructions if a storm disrupts power or transfers. Move an exposed motorbike excursion to another day.

Read the national weather service warnings and contact the operator handling your departure. Ask whether a trip is cancelled, moved or running on another route, then get the answer in writing. For a flight connection, use the airline's operating update before leaving for the airport during a storm alert.

Da Nang weather in December and January

December drops to about 25°C by day and 21°C at night, but still receives 272mm of rain. Pack a light jacket and waterproof. Plan the Museum of Cham Sculpture and city meals first, then add a Han River walk in a dry spell. Keep daily swimming out of the booking assumptions.

January has roughly 83mm of rain, substantially less than December, with 25°C afternoons and 20°C nights. The sea is near its coolest part of the year. Choose this month for city sightseeing with a layer in your bag; choose March or April for a stronger beach and walking combination.

For a December or January stopover, count the usable days after arrival and before departure. Put one indoor attraction on each day's shortlist and leave the mountain excursion movable. Read the hotel's cancellation deadline before paying for a cheap coastal room, especially if the flight is booked separately.

Ba Na Hills fog and the Golden Bridge

Ba Na Hills can sit in cloud while the beachfront is clear. Fog can hide both the Golden Bridge's distant view and the hills behind it. Ask the attraction about mountain visibility on the morning of departure, and take a rain shell even if your Da Nang hotel window shows sunshine.

For a bridge photograph, leave the visit on a day you can move and ask about ticket change terms before buying. Put the waterproof and warm layer in your day bag, not the hotel wardrobe. During storm warnings, obtain the attraction's operating update before paying a driver to wait for the day.

The city tourism portal's seasonal advice separates mountain conditions from beach weather. Wear shoes that grip on wet surfaces and keep your phone protected when photographing in rain.

What to do when the beach plan changes

The Museum of Cham Sculpture gives a rainy afternoon a named destination, with stone sculptures inside its galleries. Arrange a door-to-door ride if heavy rain is forecast. In a severe-weather warning, ask the hotel about local access before setting out and move the visit if transport is disrupted.

Marble Mountains includes outdoor courtyards, stone steps and cave passages. Rain leaves the steps slippery; a cave entrance does not turn the whole route into an indoor outing. Wear grippy shoes and keep your hands free on stairways. Save the climb for a dry gap after persistent rain.

Use the Marble Mountains visitor guide to choose the parts of the site you want to see before setting off. Carry water in hot months and a waterproof in the wet season. If the steps are slick on arrival, turn back instead of trying to complete a circuit to justify the taxi fare.

Pick two nearby stops from the things to do in Da Nang for each day, then group them by location. Put Marble Mountains in the outdoor slot and Cham sculpture in the indoor slot.

Dry your shoes overnight, refill drinking water and charge the phone before a mountain departure. Ask reception to confirm the pickup point if street flooding changes vehicle access. During a severe storm, stay inside the accommodation and obtain the next transport update before arranging replacement travel.

Hoi An and an onward trip to Phong Nha

Hoi An shares the autumn rain pattern, but river flooding can close streets while Da Nang has a dry spell. Call the accommodation about its entrance road. The Hoi An weather guide covers that stop; choose a cancellable room and leave extra time before an onward flight from Da Nang.

Arrange the Da Nang to Hoi An transfers with the full hotel address and a working phone number. During heavy rain, ask the driver whether the normal road is open and agree a revised pickup point if needed. Keep the transfer separate from the assumption that a short distance guarantees a short journey.

Jungle Boss runs every tour year-round except Bach Ma Discovery and the two Do Quyen Waterfall tours. Those three close September to November and reopen on 1 December. All multi-day expeditions remain on the year-round calendar. Confirm your individual departure with the team before booking a tight onward train or flight.

Book Phong Nha cave country around the expedition you want and its confirmed departure. Send fitness questions and dietary requirements to Jungle Boss before arrival, then pack to the supplied equipment list. Leave time after the expedition for a changed departure; moving inland does not remove the central region's heavy-rain risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

01

What is the best month to visit Da Nang?

March and April give the strongest balance of beach time and sightseeing. March afternoons reach about 28°C and April 31°C, with 36mm and 50mm of rain respectively. February suits cooler city walks; May to August suits warmer swimming with stronger midday heat. Put exposed walks early in summer.
02

When is Da Nang's rainy season?

September to December is the wettest part of the calendar, led by October at 658mm and November at 486mm. These months can bring prolonged rain, flooding and storm disruption. Book changeable activities, read the room cancellation deadline and use official warnings to decide whether a particular transfer should proceed.
03

Can you swim in Da Nang in December?

Only when flags and lifeguards permit it. December sea temperatures are around 25°C, but swell and winter winds can rule out swimming even on a dry day. Choose a hotel pool as an alternative and keep children within supervised areas. For a holiday centred on sea swimming, book spring or summer.
04

Is Ba Na Hills weather the same as Da Nang?

No. Ba Na Hills can be cooler and wrapped in cloud while the Da Nang beachfront stays clear. Fog can remove the Golden Bridge's distant view. Ask about conditions at the attraction, pack a warm layer and waterproof, and keep the visit movable if the photograph is your main reason for going.
05

Do Jungle Boss tours stop during the central Vietnam rainy season?

Only Bach Ma Discovery and the two Do Quyen Waterfall tours close seasonally from September to November, reopening on 1 December. Every other Jungle Boss tour runs year-round, including all multi-day expeditions. Contact the team about the specific date because river levels, trails and storms can still change an individual departure.
06

Should I cancel a Da Nang trip if rain is forecast?

A shower forecast alone does not require cancellation. Read official warnings and ask the hotel and transport operator about access. Keep a city stay with indoor plans if services are operating; move exposed excursions during severe weather. Use the cancellation terms agreed at booking if a storm prevents the planned trip.
