Vietnam Weather July 2027 and the One Region That Stays Dry
Vietnam weather in July is hot everywhere and dry in only one region: the central coast. Da Nang averages 34°C and 93 mm of rain for the month, Hue 35°C and 95 mm. Hanoi gets 280 mm with thunder on 11 days, and the south is in its rainy season. Inland, Phong Nha has its fewest rain days of the year, which makes July our best caving month.
Vietnam weather July by region
All the figures come from one dataset, the long-term station tables in Vietnam's national building climate standard, QCVN 02:2022/BXD. They are averages, not a forecast. The tables have no Hoi An, Phong Nha or Saigon station, so those rows borrow Da Nang, Dong Hoi and Can Tho.
| Place | High / low, °C | Rain, mm (days) | Sun, hours | July verdict |
| Hanoi | 33 / 27 | 280 (17) | 181 | Hot and stormy. Sightsee early |
| Sapa | 23 / 18 | 461 (26) | 104 | Wettest month. Cool, muddy trails |
| Halong (Bai Chay) | 32 / 26 | 364 (17) | 187 | Warm sea, storm risk |
| Hue | 35 / 25 | 95 (9) | 237 | Dry, very hot |
| Hoi An (Da Nang station) | 34 / 26 | 93 (9) | 246 | Go. Beach and old town |
| Da Nang | 34 / 26 | 93 (9) | 246 | Best beach weather in the country |
| Phong Nha (Dong Hoi station) | 34 / 27 | 76 (7) | 235 | Peak caving month |
| Saigon (Can Tho station) | 31 / 24 | 236 (22) | 183 | Go. Rain most afternoons |
| Phu Quoc | 30 / 25 | 419 (23) | 147 | Skip for a beach week |
| Mekong (Can Tho) | 31 / 24 | 236 (22) | 183 | Go. Green, wet, busy rivers |
Read the rain column against the sun column. Dong Hoi gets 76 mm on seven days. Phu Quoc gets 419 mm on 23. Hanoi is the odd one: July is both its sunniest month, 181 hours, and one of its wettest, because the rain arrives in short, violent storms rather than grey days. The QCVN 02:2022 climate tables carry the decimals for every station.
Averages hide the peaks. The July record is 40.8°C at the Hanoi station and 40.5°C at Dong Hoi. Plan walking for before 10 am and after 4 pm. For the other eleven months, see the best time to visit Vietnam.
July weather in Vietnam against June and August
If your dates can move by a few weeks, this matters more than anything else on the page. Same dataset, monthly rainfall in mm:
| Station | June | July | August |
| Hanoi | 253 | 280 | 309 |
| Halong (Bai Chay) | 297 | 364 | 431 |
| Da Nang | 83 | 93 | 141 |
| Dong Hoi (Phong Nha) | 79 | 76 | 166 |
| Phu Quoc | 382 | 419 | 486 |
June and July are close to identical. August is where it turns: Dong Hoi more than doubles and Halong gains another 67 mm. If you are choosing between the two summer months, the Vietnam in August guide has the station figures for the month after.
Where to go in July: the central coast
This is the one region in its dry season. Da Nang gets 246 hours of sunshine, about eight a day, and the sea at My Khe is usually flat. Hoi An works for both the beach and the old town, as long as you stay indoors from about 11 am to 3 pm.

Hue is the hottest stop on most routes, 35°C by day with a record of 40.2°C. The citadel and the royal tombs have little shade, so start at opening time. The Da Nang weather guide has the sea temperatures and the months when the red flags go up.
The Da Nang International Fireworks Festival mostly happens before July. In 2026 it ran six nights on the Han River between 30 May and 11 July, and only the final fell in July. Hotels near the river fill on show nights. The 2027 programme had not been announced when this was written in November 2026.
Phong Nha in July: the best caving month
Dong Hoi, the nearest station to Phong Nha, averages 7.2 rain days in July, the fewest of any month, and 2.3 days with thunder, the lowest July figure of any station on the table. February is drier by volume. July is drier where it matters for a cave trip: fewer storms that raise the rivers overnight. It is also hot: 34°C on the road, noticeably cooler under the canopy and in the caves.

Every Jungle Boss tour in Phong Nha runs in July, including Bach Ma and the two Do Quyen Waterfall tours, which only close from September to November. Our guide to multi-day cave expeditions in Vietnam compares the routes by length, difficulty and price.
The longest is the Kong Collapse Top Adventure: 5 days and 4 nights, VND 35,000,000, price checked November 2026. It leaves on Tuesdays and Fridays with up to 10 people, takes no one under 16, and you pass a health check before you go. Day one is rope training at our base. Day three is a 100 m abseil, in stages, into the Kong sinkhole. You camp at Dai A Cave, at the bottom of the collapse and inside Pygmy Cave.
If you only have a day, the Elephant Cave and Ma Da Valley trek costs VND 1,950,000, about US$74. It runs daily with pickup around 8:00 am, takes children from 9, and ends with a 600 m swim through Tra Ang water cave. The swim is the best part of a 34°C day. Read the Phong Nha trek fitness guide before you book anything over two days.
The north in July: hot, wet and still worth it
Hanoi in July is 33°C by day and 27°C at night, and thunder rolls through on about 11 days. Storms tend to break in the afternoon and clear within an hour or two. Mornings are the time for the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake.

Sapa is the wettest place on the table: 461 mm on 26 days, its rainiest month. It is also the coolest, 23°C by day, and the rice is young and bright green. Expect clay on every trail and leeches in the forest sections. The leeches guide covers what actually works.

Halong's sea is about 29°C, and the bay gets 364 mm of rain. Storms do stop cruises. On 20 July 2025, with Typhoon Wipha approaching, Quang Ninh's port authority barred tourist boats from leaving, and only boats bringing passengers back to shore were allowed out. Book a cruise with written refund terms and keep a spare day before your flight home. The Halong Bay weather guide explains who cancels and when, and the Sapa or Halong Bay comparison helps if you only have time for one.
The south in July: Saigon, the Mekong and Phu Quoc
The south is warm, about 31°C by day and 24°C at night, and wet: 236 mm on 22 days at Can Tho. Most of it comes as a heavy shower of one or two hours in the late afternoon. Mornings are usually dry, so do the Mekong boat trips and Saigon's markets first.

Phu Quoc is the place to avoid. It gets 419 mm in July on 23 rain days and only 147 hours of sun, and the west-coast beaches face the monsoon swell. Save the island for November to April. The Phu Quoc guide has the beaches for when you do go.
July crowds, prices and holidays
July is low season for foreign visitors and peak season for Vietnamese families. Schools are out from about June to mid-August, and Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Ha Long and Phu Quoc all fill up, Friday to Sunday most of all. Foreign low season does not mean low prices at the beach. Book central coast hotels and domestic flights early.
There is no public holiday in July. 27 July, War Invalids and Martyrs Day, is a day of remembrance, not a day off, so offices and transport run as normal.
What to pack for July
- Light, loose clothes that dry overnight. Hanoi averages 81% humidity in July.
- A rain shell or poncho for the north and the south. An umbrella works in the old towns, not on a motorbike.
- Sun hat, sunscreen and electrolyte sachets for the central coast, where it is 34°C to 35°C.
- Shoes that grip when wet, for Sapa's trails and for river crossings in Phong Nha.
For a cave trek, Jungle Boss lends army boots in sizes 37 to 45, which drain faster than waterproof hiking boots. They come with every trek, from the one-day Elephant Cave walk to the five-day Kong Collapse.
Before any trip in July, check the national weather service. It posts storm warnings two or three days ahead.
