If you had set your sails for sun-kissed shores, colorful culture, and some kind of adventure, let me take you to the shores of Da Nang Beach in Vietnam. Centrally located along the coast of the country, there is a whole array of experiences at this place from pure relaxation to uttermost adventure. Da Nang was one of the most visited cities of Vietnam in 2024!
Let us tell you why Da Nang should be visited and which beaches you should include in your Da Nang itinerary.
Note: If you have got time, I really really highly recommend you to visit Bana hills especially if you travelling with family!
Imagine sandy beaches with clear blue waters and the view of mountains right next to the city center - that is Da Nang. Besides owning its own set of natural beauties, the city is also known for good modern infrastructure, friendly locals, and a rich history. Whatever type of holiday maker you are be it beach-bum, foodie, or adrenaline junkie, Da Nang has something for you.
Yes I agree Da Nang has become a bit commercialised due to over tourism but there are still some hidden spots left if you know where to look!
I think the best way to enjoy the city properly is to rent a motorbike and just ride around. You can stop wherever you want along the way as there are tons of nice cafes (some are operated by foreigners) and bars along with nice beaches.
Avoid travelling in the afternoon as it can get insanely hot.
Timing is everything, right? So, to truly enjoy the beaches in Da Nang, visit from February to May. The weather is warm during these months, and the rainfall is at a minimum, hence very suitable for the beach and sightseeing. Avoid the rainy seasons in September through December to prevent your plans from getting soaked.
Start early in the morning and if you are a party animal then start around 5 pm and chill at beach side clubs/bars which are surprisingly cheap!
My Khe Beach:
Being one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, My Khe consists of a very long stretch of white sand and soft waves. This beach is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or simply going for a walk. It's also pretty close to the center of town.
We have also included it in our list of best things to do in Da Nang.
My An Beach:
My An Beach is south of My Khe's famous beach. The beach was quiet, containing a lot of local visitors and guests. The area behind the beach, named the My An area, is totally full of hotels, restaurants, and other entertainments, so it is very convenient to stay here.
Non Nuoc Beach:
This is a peaceful retreat located near Marble Mountain with crystal-clear water and powdery sand; ideal for surfers too.
It's also one of my favorites due to how peaceful it was due to lack of crowds for some reason I am not aware of!
A good accommodation may make or break your trip. Here are the following recommendations divided into three categories:
High-range:
InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort is a great composition of beach and mountain scenery. It will surely grant you a high-end retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the trip.
With over 7000 google reviews and 4.9 star google rating you can understand why its always in high demand and overbooked. Check out yourself, we have included the google maps link.
Mid-range:
With proximity to the beach, TMS Hotel Da Nang Beach and Golden Lotus Grand Hotel Da Nang will suffice to keep you comfortable. You would love the views in the morning as it's right on the beach where you can see lots of people running early in the morning.
Budget:
Sofiana My Khe Hotel & Spa and Yarra Ocean Suites Danang are listed in the line-up. They never lower the quality for a friendly price. And do not let the lower price range make you think it might have lower quality as you can see with 4.8 star rating with over 1000 google reviews.
Getting around Da Nang is relatively easy as this city is small. Here are a few options:
Motorbike Rentals:
For only about $6 USD (150,000 VND), you can travel around the city on a motorbike.
Taxis and Ride-Hailing Apps:
Services such as Grab are readily available and quite affordable. Short-distance drives begin from about 50,000 VND ($2 USD).
Bicycles:
Most hotels allow rentals for bicycles, which will serve well on a leisurely ride along the beach.
Explore the Marble Mountains:
A cluster of five limestone hills, all named after the five elements, housing caves, temples, and a panorama. It's about a 15-minute drive away from My Khe Beach.
Visit the Dragon Bridge:
An unforgettable, dragon-shaped bridge that breathes fire and water every weekend evening. Be present there to catch that view and click some amazing snaps.
Hoi An tour:
Only 45 minutes away by drive, ancient Hoi An forms the perfect excursion. The walks down its charming streets, food delights, and perhaps even a tailored suit from one of the many tailors which represent some of the things not to be missed.
If you do go to Hoi An, do not forget to try out the best restaurants of Hoi An on your visit!
Being in Vietnam creates a food heaven, and Da Nang doesn't lag behind. Here is a list of some local things to eat and where to have those:
Bun Bo Hue:
Spicy beef noodle soup for a favorite breakfast.
Seafood:
Fresh catches of the day can be tried at the beachside restaurants in the My An area.
Cafes:
Da Nang is filled with cafes. One of the highly recommended ones is XLII Speciality Coffee. However, expect to pay high prices for this.
The last time I was in Da Nang, I rented a motorbike and made my spontaneous way to Son Tra Peninsula. The roads, greenery, and the view of the Lady Buddha statue simply mesmerized me. Even more, I found a beach hidden somewhere and had a great, quiet afternoon away from the main tourist spots. It was one of those things you do unplanned, yet it gets the limelight for your trip.
You can get motorbikes for rent around 150k VND, just ensure to check brakes, rear view mirrors and lights working condition since a lot of bikes I checked had one of those either missing or defective!
Currency:
The Vietnamese Dong is the currency of the place. It is highly recommended to carry some cash, especially if planning to visit local markets or small establishments. Cash is King in Vietnam (at least for local shops and street food vendors).
Language:
Although Vietnamese is the official language, English is widely spoken and thus understood in tourist areas. Ensure you know at least how to say these basic phrases like : Hello, Thank you and How Much :)
Safety:
Generally, Da Nang is a very safe city. However, as it is with tourist destinations, one must be very watchful about their belongings and be careful in areas not so well known.
