Vietnam Weather November: Where to Go in 2026
Vietnam in November is a strong choice for Hanoi, Ha Long Bay and the improving southern beaches. Skip the central coast for a short beach holiday. Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An are still in storm season, with flooding capable of stopping the journey as well as spoiling the view.
Vietnam weather November: the regional picture
North: go for walking, food and limestone scenery. Centre: go for a specific sight or expedition, with changeable bookings. South: go for Saigon, river trips and Phu Quoc. Highlands: pack for cold Sapa evenings or Da Lat's cooler air, even if the rest of the itinerary needs shorts.
The figures below are rounded long-term averages, not a November 2026 forecast. Rain days include brief showers. Hoi An uses nearby Da Nang, Phong Nha uses Dong Hoi and the Mekong Delta uses Can Tho as station proxies. Use the table for the route and packing; use local forecasts for departure decisions.
| Place | Average high / low, °C | Rain days | Swimming decision |
| Hanoi | 26 / 19 | 8 | Inland city |
| Sapa | 16 / 10 | 14 | Mountain destination |
| Ha Long Bay | 26 / 19 | 6 | Possible when conditions and cruise rules allow |
| Hue | 27 / 21 | 22 | Choose sightseeing over a beach holiday |
| Hoi An | 28 / 23 | 21 | Nearby Da Nang station proxy; rough sea possible |
| Da Nang | 28 / 23 | 21 | Warm water does not guarantee safe surf |
| Phong Nha | 26 / 21 | 17 | Dong Hoi station proxy; follow tour decisions |
| Ho Chi Minh City | 32 / 25 | 9 | Inland city |
| Phu Quoc | 31 / 25 | 13 | Good candidate, check the beach each day |
| Mekong Delta | 31 / 24 | 14 | Can Tho station proxy; focus on river visits |
Da Lat adds another November option: about 22°C by day, 14°C at night and eight rain days, with roughly 85mm of rain. Pack a fleece for evenings around Xuan Huong Lake. Choose Da Lat for a cool inland break; choose Phu Quoc if swimming is the reason for the flight.
Compare the best time to visit Vietnam for a trip spanning several months. The WMO Da Nang climate table shows the central coast's autumn rainfall peak. For a two-week November holiday, put the northern sightseeing and southern beach days in the diary first, then decide which central stop earns the extra travel.

North Vietnam: start with Hanoi and the bay
Hanoi's 26°C afternoons and 19°C nights suit walking between Hoan Kiem Lake, the Old Quarter and the French Quarter. Start with breakfast, walk before the streets fill, and carry a light layer for the evening. November verdict: Hanoi is one of the easiest city stops on this route.
Ha Long Bay has roughly six rain days and daytime temperatures around 26°C. Book for limestone islands, cave visits and time aboard a boat, rather than a daily swimming target. Read the cruise cancellation terms before paying, and leave a night between the boat's return and an international flight.
For a Hanoi and Ha Long combination, settle the transfer before choosing the cruise departure. The Hanoi to Halong Bay guide explains the options. Ask whether the operator collects from your actual hotel, where the boat departs and what happens to the transfer payment if the port suspends sailing.
Sapa is a colder trip: around 16°C by day and 10°C at night, with about 14 rain days. Put grippy walking shoes, a warm layer and a rain shell in your bag. Ask the guide about mud on the chosen trail. November verdict: go for mountain walks, with layers and a wet-path plan.
Central Vietnam: decide what you are willing to change
Hue averages about 22 rain days; Da Nang and nearby Hoi An about 21. Some spells bring persistent rain, not a quick afternoon shower. Book rooms with cancellation terms you can accept, and ask for a pickup address on an accessible road if staying beside a river or outside town.
Storm disruption has three separate parts. Airlines cancel or retime flights; landslides can block the Hai Van Pass road between Da Nang and Hue; rising river water can inundate Hoi An's low streets. During Kalmaegi in November 2025, airlines changed central-region schedules. Ask the airline and driver about your actual departure before leaving the hotel.
Hoi An's Ancient Town and An Bang Beach need different plans. For the town, reserve a cancellable stay and ask the hotel which streets are flooded. For a beach-only break, choose Phu Quoc instead. The Hoi An weather guide covers the seasonal pattern. November verdict: Hoi An is a sightseeing stop with flood risk.

The late-November 2025 floods were real. On 23 November, AP reported submerged roads and railways across central Vietnam after days of heavy rain. That report concerns the wider region, not a promise that every Hoi An street flooded on the same date. Leave floodwater alone: do not walk, drive or ride through it.
Use the Vietnam rainy season guide to compare the central coast with the rest of the country. November verdict for Hue and Da Nang: book for the imperial sights or city, with spare time; move a three-night swimming holiday south. A Hai Van sightseeing ride belongs on a clear day with an open road.

Phong Nha in November: what still runs
Jungle Boss runs every tour in November except Bach Ma Discovery and the two Do Quyen Waterfall tours. Those three close from September to November and reopen on 1 December. All other tours run year-round, including every multi-day expedition. November verdict: Phong Nha remains an expedition stop, subject to the team's departure decision.
Confirm the date, route and pickup directly with Jungle Boss. Ask what happens if the team moves a departure because of river levels or trail conditions. Leave the following travel day free of an early flight, and send dietary requirements and equipment questions before arriving in Phong Nha.
The Phong Nha autumn and winter guide covers the local seasonal setting. Use the operating calendar stated here when choosing a trip: multi-day expeditions do not have a blanket November shutdown. Give the team your arrival time and onward booking so they can identify a tight connection before you pay for it.
Put the expedition near the start of the Phong Nha stay and leave at least one uncommitted day afterwards if your schedule permits. Keep the guide's contact details offline. Do not swap a cancelled guided route for an independent walk into a flooded valley or an unfamiliar cave entrance.

South Vietnam: city time, river trips and Phu Quoc
Saigon stays hot: around 32°C by day and 25°C at night, with about nine rain days. Walk early, carry water and put a museum or lunch between outdoor stops. November verdict: a strong city base, with a light waterproof still in the day bag. Sapa clothing can stay in the suitcase here.
Can Tho's figures give the Mekong Delta a working baseline of 31°C afternoons, 24°C nights and about 14 rain days. Book a river excursion with a named pickup point and departure time. Keep your phone and documents in a dry bag. November verdict: go for river life, with rain protection aboard.
Phu Quoc has about 31°C afternoons and a sea near 29°C in November. Rain is easing, though the month still has roughly 13 rain days. Nha Trang's sea is about 27°C, but its November rainfall is around 330mm. November verdict: choose Phu Quoc over Nha Trang for a holiday built around the beach.

If your dates can move, compare the Vietnam in December guide before paying for the island flight. Phu Quoc's rainfall drops further into the dry season. For November itself, choose accommodation with somewhere to eat and sit under cover, and ask the hotel about conditions at its own beach before booking a boat day.
How to shape the trip without chasing the forecast
For seven nights, stay in the north or south. Give Hanoi several nights and add Ha Long Bay, or split a southern week between Saigon and Phu Quoc. Count the flight and transfer days before dividing the nights. Three bases in one week leave little time to absorb a delayed departure.
For two weeks, combine Hanoi and Ha Long with Saigon and Phu Quoc. Add central Vietnam only for a named priority such as Hue's imperial complex or a Phong Nha expedition. Put a spare night before a separately ticketed flight. Ask each operator whether a weather cancellation means a refund, credit or new date.
For a cave-led trip, book the expedition departure before the train or domestic flight. Read its walking distances and equipment list, then tell the team about fitness limits. Pack the trekking bag before the pickup morning and leave a dry set of clothes at your accommodation for the return.
What to pack, book and check for November 2026
Pack a rain shell, quick-drying clothes and a waterproof pouch for your passport. Add a warm layer for Sapa or Da Lat, and sun protection for Saigon and Phu Quoc. Keep a change of clothes in hand luggage if flying between regions. Wet shoes need their own bag, away from clean clothes.
Take shoes with tread for Sapa and cave-country walks, plus separate sandals for the beach. Arrange laundry before an overnight transfer and ask when it will be ready. Put electronics inside a dry bag on river trips; a daypack's fabric and an umbrella will not protect them from water entering the bottom.
Compare the total room and flight prices for your exact dates, including checked baggage and change charges. Do not build the budget around a national November discount. For a central-coast stay, read the cancellation deadline in local time and save the terms with the booking confirmation before paying.
Ask Hoi An accommodation about lantern events and any flood-related changes to access. Lunar dates move against the Gregorian calendar; use the actual November 2026 programme when arranging transport. Leave a festival evening out of the prepaid itinerary until its date and venue are confirmed by the organiser.
Use the national weather service for storm and heavy-rain warnings, then call the relevant airline, cruise operator or driver. Ask a specific question: is this flight operating, is this road open, or has this departure moved? Download the booking references and local contact numbers before travelling out of mobile coverage.
