Climate in Vietnam in April 2027, North to South
The climate in Vietnam in April is at its best on the central coast. Da Nang averages 31°C by day, 35 mm of rain and five rain days for the month. Hanoi is warm but grey at 28°C, Sapa gets wetter, and the far south is at its hottest, around 34°C. The weather is rarely what goes wrong in April. The 30 April holiday is.
Vietnam weather in April by region
The table gives the average temperature in Vietnam in April for ten stops, with rain and sunshine. All figures come from one source, Vietnam's national climate standard QCVN 02:2022/BXD, rounded. Hoi An uses the Da Nang station, Phong Nha uses Dong Hoi, and Saigon has no station in it, so its row is Can Tho, 170 km south-west.
| Place | High / low, °C | Rain, mm (days) | Sun, hours | April verdict |
| Hanoi | 28 / 22 | 92 (14) | 87 | Go, but expect grey, humid days |
| Sapa | 21 / 14 | 213 (18) | 168 | Go with a rain shell and grippy boots |
| Ha Long Bay, Bai Chay station | 26 / 22 | 86 (11) | 89 | Calm water, hazy views |
| Hue | 31 / 23 | 59 (9) | 176 | Go, sightsee before 11am |
| Hoi An, Da Nang station | 31 / 24 | 35 (5) | 209 | Best month for the beach and the old town together |
| Da Nang | 31 / 24 | 35 (5) | 209 | Peak beach weather, swim between the flags |
| Phong Nha, Dong Hoi station | 29 / 22 | 61 (9) | 159 | One of the best months for caves and treks |
| Saigon, Can Tho station | 34 / 25 | 42 (6) | 259 | Hot; plan indoor afternoons |
| Phu Quoc | 33 / 26 | 148 (12) | 246 | Good early in the month, showers by the end |
| Mekong Delta, Can Tho station | 34 / 25 | 42 (6) | 259 | Go out on the river at 6am |
Look at the sun column. Hanoi gets 87 hours in April, under three a day, against 209 in Da Nang. Averages also hide spikes: the April record is 39.0°C at the Hanoi station and 41.0°C at Dong Hoi. If your phone shows 37°C, it is not broken.
The national climate tables hold every station, and our month-by-month guide to the best time to visit Vietnam covers the rest of the year.
March vs April vs May: how fast it changes
The weather in Vietnam in April is a hinge between seasons. Same dataset:
| Measure | March | April | May |
| Hanoi average high | 23°C | 28°C | 32°C |
| Da Nang average high | 28°C | 31°C | 33°C |
| Sapa rainfall | 105 mm | 213 mm | 341 mm |
| Phu Quoc rain days | 7 | 12 | 19 |
| Can Tho rain days | 2 | 6 | 16 |
Early and late April are different trips. For the south and Phu Quoc, go in the first half. For the centre, late April is fine, holiday aside.
Where to go: Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue
April belongs to this stretch of coast. Da Nang gets 35 mm of rain in April against 628 mm in October. Stay on My Khe or near An Bang, and keep Hoi An's old town for evenings, when the lanterns are lit and the stone has cooled. A Hoi An lantern boat ride on the Thu Bon River after dark is the easiest way to see them.
The Hoi An weather guide shows why this window closes: by September the central coast is into its storm season.

Hue's Imperial City is mostly open stone courtyards with little shade. Be at the gate when it opens and leave the royal tombs for a second morning. Book early: Hue reported room occupancy above 85% over the 2025 Hung Kings weekend.

The north: humid Hanoi, wet Sapa, hazy Ha Long
Hanoi in April is pleasant to walk and dull to photograph. Humidity averages 85% and the sky is often white. Walk the Old Quarter early and keep a museum for the afternoon downpour.
Sapa is the awkward one. Rain doubles from March, 18 rain days is the most in the table, and nights drop to 14°C. Late April is when many terraces are flooded for planting: mirrors of water, not the green of July or the gold of September.

Ha Long Bay gets 89 hours of sun, so the limestone often sits in haze. The water is calm, which is what a cruise needs. Calm water is also what makes a Halong Bay 2 night cruise worth it in April: the middle day reaches the quieter bays.
The south: hot, then the rains
Can Tho averages 34°C with 259 hours of sun, the most of any station here. Be on the Mekong at 6am, when the floating market is working. By 11am you want shade. In Saigon, walk before lunch and do museums after it.
Phu Quoc is the trap. Rain goes from 61 mm in March to 148 mm in April and 281 mm in May. Early April is reliable; the last week often is not. Read our Phu Quoc travel guide before you pick which side of the island to stay on.

What is 30 April in Vietnam, and Hung Kings Day
30 April is Reunification Day, marking the end of the war in 1975, and Labour Day follows on 1 May. In 2027 that is Friday and Saturday. Under the Labour Code a holiday on a weekend moves to the next working day, so expect Monday 3 May off too: four days. The final schedule is announced months ahead and has been stretched before.
Domestic flights, sleeper trains and beach hotels fill first. Be where you want to be by 29 April, and do not plan a long transfer on 30 April or 3 May.
Hung Kings Commemoration Day, the 10th day of the third lunar month, is Friday 16 April 2027: a three-day weekend and a smaller surge. The main ceremony is at the Hung Temple in Phu Tho, about 90 km from Hanoi.
Phong Nha in April
This is the month we would pick. Dong Hoi averages 29°C by day and 61 mm of rain, then May jumps to 32°C and June to 34°C. The Kong Collapse page names April and May as its best months: dry trails, before the heat.
Kong Collapse is five days and four nights, 10 people at most, minimum age 16, for 35,000,000 VND, about US$1,330. The centrepiece is a 100 metre abseil into the sinkhole in drops of 30, 20 and 50 metres, after a health check. Our Kong Collapse safety process explains how that works.
It leaves on Tuesdays and Fridays, and 30 April 2027 is a Friday. Go that morning and you spend the busiest four days of the Vietnamese year in the jungle, walking out on Tuesday 4 May.

Not ready for five days? The Elephant Cave and Ma Da Valley day trek is 1,950,000 VND, about US$74. On your own, 2027 tickets are 270,000 VND for Paradise Cave with the shuttle and 450,000 VND for the full Dark Cave package. Every Jungle Boss tour runs in April.
What to wear in Vietnam in April
Light clothes that dry fast, plus thin long trousers or a skirt, because temples and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum want shoulders and knees covered. Add a rain shell, a fleece for Sapa and more sunscreen than you think.
For a cave expedition, start with our jungle trek packing list and bring shoes you do not mind ruining.
