In the middle of the Gulf of Thailand lies Phu Quoc, the biggest island in Vietnam, admired for its beautiful beaches, green landscapes, and colorful local culture. If someone is looking for both relaxation and adventure at the same time, it is a must-visit destination. Below are a few key pieces of information that will help in planning for the perfect itinerary for Phu Quoc Beach in your Vietnam tour in 2025.
Phu Quoc has a tropical climate; there are two major seasons:
Dry Season:
From October to March, with much warm sunshine and little rain, this creates the ideal weather for beach activities and tours.
Rainy Season:
Even with the occurrence of some heavy rainfall from April to September, this is a wet but very green island. During this period, places such as Long Beach on the north or Xep Beach (google maps link) on the south would serve as an excellent option for a visit.
Long Beach (Bai Truong):
This stretches for more than 20 km on the west coast. It is fully developed with resorts, restaurants, and bars, making it very appropriate for swimming, sunbathing, and just viewing the beautiful sunset.
Sao Beach (Bai Sao):
Sao Beach is renowned for its powder-like white sand and turquoise waters. Being quite a popular beach, the best time to visit would be early in the morning to avoid crowds.
Starfish Beach (Rach Vem):Located on the northern part, with shallow waters and starfish. It is quiet, great for relaxation, and perfect for taking some good photos. We have included a google maps link here so you do not miss it, you’re welcome!
It was one of our favorite beaches in Vietnam since there are not many beaches where you can see so many starfish in the open.
Phu Quoc has varying types of accommodation options to suit various budgets:
Luxury Resorts:
Enjoy a luxury stay by booking an upmarket resort offering large-sized suites and villas with fantastic amenities.
Mid-range Hotels:
Many good mid-range hotels provide excellent value-for-money, especially around Duong Dong and Long Beach.
Budget Hostels:
Inexpensive backpackers will find various affordable hostels and guesthouses, most of which are available in Duong Dong and Ong Lang.
Motorbike Rental:
This is a very popular, convenient option that will enable guests to travel around the island at their own pace. Motorbike rentals range from 120,000 VND-150,000 VND per day without including petrol.
Car Rental:
Car rentals without a driver are comfortable and flexible for families or groups, with prices starting from 700,000 VND to 1,300,000 VND per day.
If you would ask us, go with a motorbike as you will have way more freedom and who doesn’t love riding motorbikes in Vietnam (except in crowded cities). It will be a different experience where you will feel more like a traveler than a typical tourist who is travelling in cars and buses!
Snorkeling and Diving:The waters around Phu Quoc are thickly inhabited by marine life, making snorkeling and diving fun activities. Several tour operators offer trips to the coral reefs around the island. Prices are negotiable and if you have time then it's easy to get a better price. Just check with multiple operators before finalising with one and always check google reviews.
This reminds me of the beautiful marine life I saw on my trip to Luwuk Banggai in Sulawesi, Indonesia (some call it Bali but better!)

Phu Quoc National Park:
The park covers a huge part of the island, offering different trails for hiking through various flora and fauna. It's a haven for nature lovers. There will be a lot of walking so bring some snacks and water bottles and start in the early morning.
Night Markets:
Duong Dong Night Market is a must-visit for a taste of the local cuisine, shopping for souvenirs, and capturing the nightlife on the island.
Currency:
The local currency is Vietnamese Dong, although credit cards are accepted by most establishments; it is still highly recommended to bring cash around, especially when going to remote places.
Language:
Vietnamese is the official language, though English is widely understood in the tourist areas of the island. Knowing how to say “hello”, “thank you” and other basic words will earn you lots of brownie points in Vietnam!
Connectivity:
Free Wi-Fi can be accessed in all hotels, restaurants, and cafes. It is recommended to purchase a local SIM card to avoid network problems.
