Three days in Phong Nha totalled up

Three days in Phong Nha costs about 1.6 million dong per person travelling cheaply, roughly 60 US dollars, or about 6.3 million, roughly 240 dollars, with a guided cave day and a private room. Beds are 50,000 to 750,000 dong a night, cave tickets 80,000 to 450,000, and a guided day tour 1,950,000. Getting there from Dong Hoi is 35,000 dong on the local bus or 500,000 in a taxi. Prices checked September 2026, at about 26,000 dong to the dollar.

The single biggest variable is not accommodation and it is not food. It is whether you do a guided tour, which can cost more than everything else combined.

What it costs to reach Phong Nha

Almost everyone arrives through Dong Hoi, 45 minutes away by road.

One thing to know before you land: there is no public bus from Dong Hoi airport. No stop, no shuttle, no connection. If you arrive by air you are taking a taxi or a pre-arranged pickup, so budget for it rather than being surprised at arrivals.

Getting to Dong Hoi in the first place costs 250,000 to 650,000 dong on an overnight sleeper bus from Hanoi, or 9.5 to 10.5 hours on the train. Getting to Phong Nha covers every route into the park.

Eating in Phong Nha on any budget

A local meal runs 25,000 to 70,000 dong. A dish in a tourist-facing restaurant runs 50,000 to 200,000. A bag of crisps is 5,000. Eating three times a day costs 100,000 to 250,000 dong depending entirely on which side of that line you eat.

Caver abseiling on a rope into a jungle doline in Phong NhaThe top tier of tour buys equipment, a safety team and training on the day.

Phong Nha is a small town and its restaurants are used to catering for people who have just walked 10km, so portions are generous and prices are lower than Hoi An. Phong Nha restaurants covers where to go.

Phong Nha cave entrance fees

AttractionFee
Phong Nha Cave150,000 VND plus a boat, charged per boat for up to 12 people
Tien Son Cave80,000 VND
Paradise Cave250,000 to 270,000 VND depending on whether the buggy is included
Dark Cave, full package450,000 VND, less off season
Mooc Spring180,000 VND, all activities included
Botanic Garden40,000 VND

These are set by the provincial park authority and are the same whoever sells them to you. Children under 1.3 metres go free. Bring cash, because the ticket counters do not take cards.

Guided prices look high next to a show cave ticket because they are not the same product. A guide, a safety team, porters and lunch are inside that number. A ticket buys you a boardwalk.

Beware the cheapest number on any operator's list. Some low-priced tours are private departures with a minimum group size, which is no use to one or two people. The cheapest guided day an individual can actually join is 1,950,000 dong. Budget Phong Nha tours covers the cheap end properly, and the Phong Nha caves without a tour covers doing it on a rented motorbike.

What a Phong Nha tour price includes

This is where the real comparison happens, because a 1,950,000 dong tour that feeds you is not the same product as a cheaper one that does not.

Passengers boarding a local bus at a roadside stop in Quang Tri provinceThe B4 runs hourly from Dong Hoi city for 35,000 dong, though not from the airport.

Included on a Jungle Boss tour: professional guide and safety assistants, local porters, helmet, head torch, life jacket and gloves, all meals and drinks during the tour, travel insurance, borrowed military shoes and sandals, towels, and pick-up and drop-off within Phong Nha town.

Not included: guide tips, personal expenses, and pick-up outside the stated area. On multi-day tours the tents, mattresses, pillows and blankets are provided.

Cloud sitting on the limestone peaks above Phong NhaCloud like this is normal from September onwards and closes nothing on its own.

Tipping is not obligatory in Vietnam and it is normal on guided adventure tours, where the guide, the safety assistants and the porters have carried your lunch up a hill. Budget something for it rather than deciding on the day. Tipping culture in Vietnam covers the conventions properly.

How Phong Nha prices change with the season

Beds and transfers are cheapest from September to November, which is also the wettest period, and dearest around Tet and the Vietnamese summer holidays in June and July when domestic tourism peaks.

Two things do not move. Entrance fees are fixed by the province all year. Guided tour prices are fixed too, because the cost is guides, porters and safety staff rather than beds, so there is no low season on a tour.

One attraction does change: the Dark Cave package drops from 450,000 dong to roughly 250,000 to 270,000 once the water activities close for the season, which is cheaper and also a smaller day out.

On the tours themselves, Jungle Boss closes only three across September, October and November, Bach Ma Discovery and the two Do Quyen Waterfall trips, reopening them on 1 December. Everything else runs year-round, so a wet-season trip narrows your choice far less than most weather pages suggest.

Add a two-day expedition instead of a day tour and the comfortable column goes to about 12,250,000 dong, roughly 471 dollars. That is the whole shape of the decision: Phong Nha is a cheap town with one expensive thing in it, and the expensive thing is the reason people come.

How much should I budget per day in Phong Nha?

About 300,000 to 500,000 dong a day, roughly 12 to 19 US dollars, for a dorm bed, food, a motorbike and one entrance fee. Double it for a private room and restaurant meals. Then add tours separately, because a single guided day costs more than three days of everything else.
