For solo travelers, it's not bad to rent a motorbike because it gives some flexibility and allows seeing the amazing landscapes on each side of the Ho Chi Minh Road, which cuts through thick jungles and over limestone mountains. The car rentals inclusive of drivers are more comfortable and family/group-oriented, especially in case one plans to take a full day's trip into the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
