Practical Information

  • Currency: The local currency is the Vietnamese Dong. While there is an abundance of ATMs everywhere-even in the smallest towns-it is nevertheless highly advisable to keep a sum of cash on hand while traveling, especially when purchasing items from street vendors or in small shops. Cash is king in Vietnam!

  • Language: The official language is Vietnamese, although English would be well-understood in tourist areas. On the other hand, it would bring more fun during your trip and closer communication with locals by studying basic Vietnamese.
Try it! Try saying Xin chao (Hello) or Ban co khoe khong (How are you?) and look at the smiles light up in front of you!

  • Safety: In general, Hue is a safe city for tourists. Of course, like in all other places around the world, use your common sense: take good care of your belongings and pay extra attention when crossing busy areas.
Note: Looking for a more western festival in Vietnam then you can also participate in the Halloween party in Hue in 2025!
